Massage Therapy
WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?
Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including, muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare option, that helps alleviate the discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. An RMT is an individual who is registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, in accordance with the Regulated Health Professionals Act and the Massage Therapy Act.
BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY
Massage therapy is beneficial for people of all ages and conditions and can help:
~ Increase circulation, range of motion, relaxation/ well-being, immune system
~ Decrease tension, pain, adhesions, stress, headache/migraines, muscle spasm
~ Injury rehabilitation due to sports injury, motor vehicle accidents, post-surgical recovery
MASSAGE THERAPY TREATMENTS INCLUDE:
SWEDISH MASSAGE
The “standard” massage treatment in which lotion is applied to the skin and the soft tissues are worked. Pressure can be applied lightly in order to promote relaxation or deeply to alleviate muscle dysfunction and pain. Deep tissue massage helps to breakdown chronic adhesions/ scar tissue to alleviate chronic pain and injuries within the deeper muscle layers.
ACUPRESSURE
An Eastern approach which is incorporated into a massage treatment. Unlike acupuncture which uses needles, acupressure uses gentle to firm pressure with the fingertips or a specially designed tool. When the points are stimulated, they can decrease muscle tension, increase circulation and aid in overall body healing. Acupressure is incorporated into any type of massage treatment.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Fascia is the tissue that gives your body structure and shape. It is found throughout the body and attaches to bones, muscles and organs. While we do not have active control of the fascia it can create tension throughout the muscles and other soft tissues. Myofascial release is generally done without lotion and consists of "picking up" the tissue and gliding with it to create a stretch. A burning/stretching sensation can be felt throughout the tissue being worked which is completely normal. This modality is especially effective at relieving chronic ailments by improving posture and overall tissue health.
THAI MASSAGE
An Eastern approach which is performed on a mat on the floor, with the client fully clothed. The therapist uses a combination of stretching, traction and pressure techniques to increase flexibility and range of motion while decreasing overall pain. Especially effective for athletes looking to increase flexibility to decrease chance of injury.

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE/ CRANIAL TREATMENT
Combining the ancient art of Indian Head Massage with the knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck, this is the ideal treatment when it comes to relieving mental tension, headaches, and congestion of the head and neck. This treatment is performed supine (on your back) and the recipient remains fully clothed. It is a great way to maximize stress relief for the mind and entire body!
